Jinja Holidays
Jinja town lies in eastern Uganda, in the Busoga sub-region. About 80 kilometers east of Kampala, it is readily reachable from the capital city by air or road transfer.
Known as East Africa’s Adventure Capital for very good cause. Among the most exciting anywhere are the watersports offered here. Jinja, on Lake Victoria’s northern shores, lies near the source of the White Nile, one of the two main tributaries of the River Nile. The river rises from the lake just outside the town and surges north to the Bujagali Falls before draining into another lake—Kyoga. Very much the emphasis of guest lodging here, this section of rapids toward the falls offers chances for all kinds of river sports.
Rafthing
For those looking for the greatest excitement, half- or full-day’s rafting is among the most common pastimes. Rafting along this stretch of the Nile, in fact, is regarded as the best on planet Earth. Many hotels provide excursions along the more tranquil areas of the river if you are new to rafting and want a fairly mild introduction to the activity. For nature enthusiasts, this event is great since the more leisurely speed lets you appreciate looking out for birdlife. Among the highlights are the bright yellow-billed kite, red bishop, pink-backed pelican, common bulbul, and African darter.
Additional Jinja Activities
While stand-up paddleboarding trips are perfect for people who enjoy a little difficulty, kayaking cruises are also popular among birders. Again, for either a half- or full day, you may also enjoy kayaking among the white waters. Should you like to get an incredibly epic adrenaline rush, you may bungee jump into or over the Nile’s source.
There are several land activities as well. You may, for instance, go horse riding—usually a ride includes a portion of the river and a nearby settlement. Taking in the dam site and the neighboring forest and agriculture, quad biking trips follow the Nile as it rushes downstream toward Bujagali Falls. You may fish from homes with a few decent locations if you like some peace. There is truly no lack of activities both in and around the river.
Jinja inland is not without appeal. Headquarters of both the Lake Victoria Fisheries Organisation and the Roman Catholic Diocese, this town boasts a quite remarkable economic and ecclesiastical past. Among the other draws are the busy Hindu temple with bronze bust of Gandhi and a large brewery.
