Entebbe Holidays
One of Uganda’s biggest towns is Entebbe. About 37 kilometers southwest of capital city Kampala, it lies in the central area of the nation.
Especially for safarists, it has Entebbe International Airport – trips to the national parks of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Queen Elizabeth, Rwenzori, Kibale, and Lake Mburo usually begin here. There are further connections to Kampala itself and Murchison Falls. The Entebbe region offers both a pleasant stopover and extended stay similar.
Entebbe’s past
Referring to the town’s position at the start of the twentieth century, the name Entebbe means “seat” or “chair”. Entebbe took over from Kampala as Uganda’s capital on colonization; nonetheless, Kampala stayed the country’s center for trade and communication. Though to this day Entebbe stays significant—it is the official house of Uganda’s President Museveni, who has been in government since 1986—Kampala reclaimed its title after independence in 1962.
Wildlife & activities
Entebbe has many of draws. Foremost among these is its near closeness to the lovely Lake Victoria, the finest of all Africa’s Great Lakes. Wildlife enthusiasts will find great value in this great expanse of water. Wetland-dwelling mammals include hippo, marshbuck, reedbuck, waterbuck, otters, marsh mongoose, cane rat, and giant otter shrew. The reptile total is also really remarkable with mud turtle, helmeted turtle, and the grimly grinning Nile crocodile. And sharp-eyed birders can watch out for papyrus canary, blue-headed coucal, white-winged swamp-warbler, and many more.
Entebbe’s botanical gardens provide more birding. These were planted in 1898 not far from the beaches of Lake Victoria. Wildlife features here include black-and-white colobus monkey, Marabou stork, and hornbills. The gardens also provide many events and activities all year round—music festivals, nature walks, cycling, and even monkey feeding.
The Uganda Wildlife Education Centre is also a fascinating trip. Nearby Entebbe Golf Club, East Africa’s oldest course, will delight golfers. A visit to Kigungu, where Brother Amans and Father Mon Maple Lourdel came to build Uganda’s Catholic faith, can be appreciated by history-minded tourists as well.
Between visits, you may savor some excellent local and foreign food at several eateries. Entebbe has plenty for everyone to enjoy given cafés, bars, and stores also to explore.
