Kenya Solo Safari Holidays
For daring single travelers, Kenya is ideal. The properties we think particularly fit for singles are in Laikipia county and the Maasai Mara National Reserve conservancies.
Both regions are teeming with animals year-round! Though it is worth visiting during all the other months because of incredible numbers of predators and herbivores, the Maasai Mara is at its most beautiful from July to October, when it hosts the renowned Great Migration. Laikipia is our fave not only for all the animals but also for its breathtaking scenery!
Staying in the Mara Conservancies gives you the best of both worlds: a region in which to appreciate excellent game drives and walking safaris, plus all the excitement of game drives in the active MMNR! Usually, while Conservancy drives are enjoyed as half-day trips, visitors ride out into the Reserve for a full day of animal viewing, complete with picnic lunch. Our recommendation is to spend as much time on safari as you can!
Perched high above the plains on a pair of granite kopjes, Angama Mara—two camps in one—is the first property to mention in the Mara Conservancies. Angama claims to be single traveller friendly; the first two single rooms in any reservation are not charged a single extra; thereafter, 50% of the nightly fee is paid. Every camp features 15 suites with floor-to-glass windows to maximise those breathtaking vistas! Activities are planned based on guest preferences for time use. The guides are glad to stay near to camp or drive as far as the Tanzanian border; you may also choose how far out you would want to venture. While hot air balloon tours are a thrilling way to see the Mara’s fauna, walking safaris are also an option. Village visits provide even some chances to absorb some culture. One of the newest additions to Mara Conservancies, Angama Mara has already garnered great accolades!
Offbeat Mara and Kicheche Mara, both located in the Mara North Conservancy, are two other sites in this region of Kenya well worth seeing. All year round, Offbeat for one single visitor per group waives all single room extra fees. Kicheche’s unique deals for solo travelers are $135pppn between 15 July and 31 October (migration months!) and at all other times a single supplement waiver on one single tent only per group. Kicheche has eight; offbeat has just six classic tents. Both camps provide excellent safari activities. Offbeat offers game drives and walks alongside highly knowledgeable local Maasai guides. Kicheche is famous for its adaptable attitude; you may indicate how much time you want to spend on safari. Offbeat also organises hot air balloon trips and picturesque flights. Kicheche can plan balloon safaris as well; should you be staying for more than a few nights here you can hike out to the fly camp of the property! Both camps offer chances to absorb some culture by means of visits to the nearby village.
Relocating to Laikipia, we discover another Kicheche property—Kicheche Laikipia. Kicheche Laikipia, like the Mara camp, offers a unique deal for lone travelers of $135pppn from 15 July to 31 October and outside peak season each group gets a single supplement waiver on one single tent per group. All rather comfortably equipped, this camp has six tented rooms. Set inside the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, the camp is located in a section of the country rich with stunning wildlife. Activities include tracking lion using the newest equipment, game walks, and day and night game drives. One may also visit the nearby white rhino refuge and chimpanzee reserve. You can also ride, hike, and canoe!
At last, Sosian Lodge, a flourishing cattle ranch in Mount Kenya’s foothills. Here, no one solitary supplement is set on solo travelers. All spread among two charming cottages along the Lodge’s lawn, there are seven rooms total. The ranch is full of both herbivores and predators! Walking safaris take you to flora, birds, and insects; game drives are offered by day and by night. While horse and camel safaris are a great opportunity to see the animals from a different angle, tracking lion and wild dog creates a really thrilling experience. Sean the General Manager will lead you on a ranch tour; you may also go to the Lodge’s fly camp, spend some time playing on the Ewaso Narok River, and visit the nearby community to see fire creation and dance. There is truly much to do here!
