This nation is fantastic to enjoy with friends. Whether you want to see safari super size, in the shape of the Great Migration, or choose something smaller yet no less exciting, we promise you will have a fantastic time!

The Maasai Mara National Reserve is the place to see those massive herds running over the Mara River. On the other hand, go to the middle of Kenya, more particularly the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, for excellent wildlife viewing as well as chances to participate in conservation initiatives! The Samburu National Reserve has among the most fascinating cultures in Africa as well as breathtaking landscapes and plenty of wildlife. You are truly spoilt with options here!

The MMNR is not simply about the Great Migration; many creatures live there all year round! Little Governors’ Camp is the first site in this Reserve suitable for private groups. Set on the banks of an ancient oxbow lake not far from the Mara River, this camp offers you all the splendor of the Maasai Mara. Tucked amid trees beside the lake, now a marsh drawing lots of species, each of the 17 tents is located The guest lodging is roomy and pleasant; it has a private veranda from which you may enjoy the scenery. Every evening, Little Governors’ manager goes over the schedule for the next day with you to make sure you do precisely what you wish to do! Activities include fantastic hot air balloon safaris, excursions of the surrounding Maasai house, and game drives in the Musiara area of the Reserve; the Camp is quite near the launch location. For a change of view, you may also go out to the lovely Island of Mfangano.

Naibor Wilderness is another great choice in the MMNR. A private party of up to six people books this camp on an exclusive basis. Taken down and rebuilt annually, it is an eco-camp allowing the site’s flora and fauna to recover. Three traditional safari-style tents with a veranda to enjoy fantastic vistas! You may have a whole day in the Reserve with great picnic lunch or game drives in early morning and late afternoon. You may simply trace all the animals you have seen as the same driver is present all your stay. Hot air balloon excursions are also offered here; what a great opportunity to view acres upon acres of the Reserve! Before descending to a champagne brunch, you drift over the vast plains and see all the resident predators and herbivores rising at dawn. We strongly advises this!

From the Mara, we journey into the heart of Kenya for the quite unique Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, which became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in June 2013. Spanning more than 250 square kilometers, Lewa features the Ngare Ndare Forest, lush marshes, and rippling grasslands. Apart from the Northern Speciality Species of Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, Beisa oryx, and gerenuk, the Conservancy is home to all Big Five. The avian population is just amazing!

Of all the sites in Lewa, we choose Lewa Safari Camp, one of just four camps spread across the whole Conservancy. Once a cattle ranch, the Camp now offers eco-friendly and cozy lodging. All have a private balcony from which to admire excellent views; there are 11 tents overall. Activities include horse riding as well as game drives, guided hikes, and camel riding. A visit to the Ngare Ndare Forest is also possible. And there are village tours, always a favourite with tourists who want to see some culture while on vacation.

When it comes to cultural events, the Samburu National Reserve is another fantasy location. The herders who initially arrived to the area, drawn by its consistent water supplies, still live here now; it is a gift to see their way of life. The Reserve is also choc-a-bloc with animals all quenching their thirst with the meltwater running from Mount Kenya into gushing rivers and streams. Acacia woods and groves of doum palm provide plenty of refreshing shade. Species in residence include not only three of the Big Five—lion, leopard, elephant—but also the Northern Speciality Species! The birds also merits consideration given the more than 350 species ranging from bee-eaters to eagles.

Regarding lodging, we suggest Elephant Watch Camp. The name of this property gives quite a significant hint as to the main activity here! On the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River, in the centre of the Reserve, there is a wonderful small eco-camp. The Douglas-Hamilton family, well renowned for their work to preserve the gentle giants, owns it. With cotton curtains and twisted timbers, the Camp has only six really unique visitor tents. During guided hikes and game drives, you may see many kinds of animals as well as elephant viewing. Hike up Mount Ololokwe if you’re feeling lively! Visitors to a Samburu village will delight in milking goats, tossing spears, creating jewelry, and much more besides. A visit to the Save the Elephants tourist facility is truly a highlight of any stay here.
