One major draw in June is Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park. While the rutting season is in full swing, the Great Migration is pressing into the western corridor. It’s definitely a loud season! At this season, Tanzania’s northern parks are somewhat quieter than they would be a month later. Though travel here is feasible, the south and west of the nation are still not peak season; they are not as nice as they will be in a month or so.
The Republic of South Africa
Officially, June in South Africa marks the start of winter; in the northern reserves, this marks the start of the prime game-viewing season. The region starts to dry; as vegetation cover declines, animals get easier to locate. The northern section of South Africa is the polar opposite of the Cape; in the north it is the start of the dry season in the safari areas, while this is when the Cape has most of its rain and temperatures fight to reach 18°C throughout the day. The bright side is that June marks the beginning of the Cape’s whale migration!

The first herds begin to fill the riverbank of Chobe and the Linyanti region, so bringing this region into the beginning of its peak season. The game departs the Pans as this northern section of the nation improves steadily, Pans beginning to lose their allure.
