Where to go in Africa in August

The most appropriate month for the greatest African safari is August, the core of the dry season. Visitors will discover that visiting anyplace in ‘Safari Africa’ is exceptional in August.

Our August advice

Your style of safari determines the decision where to travel; eventually, your budget does too. Starting in the northern sections of the Serengeti, the Great Migration in East Africa moves into Kenya, therefore competing for the best safari experience on the whole continent. The days are bright, so gorilla trekking in Rwanda is ideal. Quite simply, August is absurdly great in Southern Africa. Particularly Botswana and Zambia provide what we think is world-class safari. Though Mozambique and the Seychelles are still providing nice warm weather, temperatures in Mauritius are falling off.

Tanzania August spoils you for options. At this time of year, the Serengeti National Park is a major draw since river crossings occur daily in the Lamai/Kogatende northern region of the park, therefore the Great Migration is the main emphasis. Tarangire is also the centre of the elephant migration in the area. A well-liked and excellent itinerary is to combine these two migrations. The Selous, Ruaha and Katavi are the focal point of the region’s game and great alternatives for a less commercial safari than the northern parks can give.

The South Africa

Being in South Africa in August is equally wonderful. Especially the north of the nation promises really fantastic weather as well as great Kruger National Park tours. Though Cape Town has its own charm at any time of year, the farther south you go the less wonderful the weather gets; August also sees the start of the whale migration down on the Garden Route. All things considered, this is a wonderful season to visit.

Bostwana

During August, Botswana’s most renowned parks are at their prime for wildlife watching. The Okavango, Moremi, Chobe, and the Linyanti region are really world class this month. No other area in Africa at any time of year matches the concentration of elephants surrounding the Chobe and Linyanti region. The whole Delta looks amazing and the Okavango is still under flood. The wildlife has practically departed the Pans and the Kalahari totally as this northern section of the country is at its peak; going to these locations starts to be unwise if you are looking for excellent game viewing.

Zambia’s

August is also Zambia’s peak travel time. Africa’s best walking destination, the Luangwa, is at its peak, with outstanding walking safari and standard game drive available in South Luangwa, and just walking in North Luangwa. At this time of year, the Lower Zambezi is a remarkable park and a real favourite in the Yellow Zebra office. Kafue is an additional park to think about for August vacations.

The country of Kenya

With the annual wildebeest and zebra migration moving its way through the Maasai Mara, August marks Kenya’s biggest wildlife highlight in full force. Particularly emphasized are the river crossings, where the herds routinely swim across croc-filled waters.

Zimbabwe

All the parks are in their best game-watching period and Zimbabwe is now in the middle of its peak-season viewing time. Starting its low water season, Victoria Falls is considered ideal for white water rafting.

Namibias

At this time of year, Namibia is excellent. Game watching in Etosha is at its best, therefore the country’s best safari spot would be a wonderful complement to any journey here. With lovely temps and clear skies, trips out to the desert and up the Skeleton Coast are rather fulfilling.

Mauritius.

Though the eastern trade winds can cause it to cool fast in the late afternoon and evenings, Mauritius enjoys balmy days in August. We thus often advise remaining on the southern and western shores, where the beaches are more sheltered.

Seychelles

August in the Seychelles has about 26°C and relatively little rainfall. Some regions may have slightly turbulent waves because of the Southeast Monsoon.

Mozambique

Though it still has a nice tropical environment and is a peak time to visit, August is among Mozambique’s coolest months. During the day, temperatures rise toward 30°C and then cool for the evening. Diving and fishing are also excellent activities at this time of year.

Rwanda.

Though August shows a little rise in the incidence of rain, it should still be regarded as one of the absolute best seasons to travel to Rwanda. The extremely low amounts of rain create ideal gorilla-trekking conditions. The changing weather patterns around Volcanoes National Park make it difficult to forecast whether or not rain will fall, though. Particularly with permit availability in mind, August is a high month for Rwanda and early booking is crucial.
