Beho Beho
Exceptionally managed, opulent, and dedicated to offering top-notch walking safaris, Beho Beho stands out as one of the finest camps in South Tanzania. While there is competition with Sand Rivers, this camp offers a distinctly more luxurious experience.
SUMMARY:
Beho Beho is managed by the Bailey family along with their exceptional team of guides and dedicated in-house staff. Sean Lues serves as the Operations Director. He is a pro guide from Zimbabwe and has been honored with the Guides Association’s ‘Guide of the Year’ award. Your stay includes full-board arrangements, featuring all meals, a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, as well as a laundry service for your convenience. The property remains unavailable from 21st March to 1st June annually, due to the disruption of flights and activities caused by the long rains in Nyerere (formerly Selous).
ACCESSIBILITY & LOCATION:
The property can be reached with a 5-minute road transfer from its private airstrip. In contrast to the majority of camps and lodges within Nyerere National Park, this one is located in the highlands of the reserve – the name Beho Beho alludes to the refreshing breezes that flow through the camp. Experience breathtaking vistas of the River Rufiji’s floodplain!
LODGING & AMENITIES AT BEHO BEHO:
The guest facilities feature ten bandas, among which is Bailey’s Banda, a two-bedroom cottage located away from the standard one-bedroom units. Each banda features its own private plunge pool, constructed from local stone, and topped with a charming palm-thatch roof. They are positioned comfortably on both sides of Beho Beho’s communal lodge. A uniquely designed path guides you to the entrance, which opens into a spacious sleeping and living area. The accommodations include a king-size bed or twin beds adorned with mosquito netting, bedside lighting, a writing desk and chair, a pair of cozy armchairs with a table, and an intricately designed Zanzibari daybed. Each banda features an open front, leading down a few steps to a veranda equipped with a telescope – the perfect spot to take in the breathtaking views! Extra features consist of a ceiling fan and round-the-clock electricity. A dressing room is available for you to store your clothes and other belongings. The en-suite amenities include a private flush toilet, dual washbasins in a spacious unit with mirrors above, and a wonderfully invigorating outdoor shower. We provide toiletries, along with bathrobes and a hairdryer for your convenience.
Bailey’s Banda features an extra bedroom, a spacious lounge, a sun deck, and a private plunge pool! Choosing this banda grants you access to attentive staff, a kitchen with a chef, and a private safari vehicle for customized excursions in Nyerere National Park.
Beho Beho’s communal lodge is situated approximately in the heart of the campsite. It’s a spacious building made of timber, stone, and thatch, completely open on the sides to fully embrace the breathtaking views! The roof, elevated and partially supported by tree trunks, allows fresh breezes to circulate freely throughout the space. The lounge area features a variety of sofas, armchairs, and plush wood-framed seating arranged around a coffee table. You’ll find an assortment of reading material and a selection of occasional tables adorned with fascinating artefacts, all elegantly placed on a lively Persian rug! The bar is well-equipped and connects seamlessly with the lounge, plus there’s a convenient tea-and-coffee station available. Just a few steps above the lounge, there’s a cozy library featuring extra seating and a billiards table for your enjoyment. The dining area is on the same level as the lounge, and typically, everyone gathers to share a meal at one large table. There are numerous outdoor dining options available – for instance, breakfast is often savored in the bush, and lunch can be relished on the camp’s sun deck. Guests at Bailey’s Banda can enjoy the choice of private dining, should they wish. Finally, Beho Beho features a delightful swimming pool, surrounded by sun loungers and a charming thatched structure perfect for shade from the sun. The elevated position offers stunning views of the valley below – you may even spot a group of hippos relaxing in a waterhole while you enjoy a swim!
