Starting in the Greater Mara Conservancies, we love three sites. Situated south of the nation, this region surrounds the Maasai Mara National Reserve. Many of our client couples enjoy it since it provides access to all the riches of wildlife the MMNR holds, from a quiet base camp, or lodge!
Mara Plains is the first ideal property here, scoring a strong 10 out of 10. Located in the core of the Olare Motorogi Conservancy, a region way off the main path that provides excellent game viewing, this camp A bridge across the Ntiakitiak River gives Mara Plains access, which adds especially intimate touch. Adorned in a colonial design, it exudes the spirit of a past era. With just seven tents, a stay here is quite unique! Every tent features a lovely wraparound veranda for guests to enjoy several different views of the vast savanna, some rich carpets, and a comfy king-size bed. Bliss is watching the sunset from your porch while sipping a glass of wine each.
Rising high above the MMNR, two kopjes give Angama Mara a very high location, making it our second favorite property in the Greater Mara Conservancies. Angama Mara is much bigger than Mara Plains with a grand total of 30 suites, but it keeps the exclusive sense of a smaller property as it is divided into two camps of 15 suites. The location’s appeal is clear; in fact, the hilltop appears in the 1985 movie Out of Africa starring Robert Redford and Meryl Streep. Every suite has an eleven-metre-wide floor-to-ceiling glass façade, allowing you to gaze at those stunning vistas from dawn to dusk. The beds are not just king size but also additional length! A suite at Angama Mara is like something out of a dream with a palette that includes flashes of rich red.
The last property we have to discuss in this area is Kicheche Bush Camp, which, like Mara Plains, lies inside the Olare Motorogi Conservancy. Unfenced, this camp provides a somewhat wilder experience than its neighbour while nevertheless keeping a romantic touch. Spaced well away from one another, there are only six tents overall. All are rather fashionable, with white, cream, and earthy tones that go perfectly with the surrounding savanna and woodland to produce the ideal comfortable camping experience! The camp’s wildness is where the romance lives. You two can be wonderful explorers on an exciting trip!
The second property we suggest for couples is in Meru National Park, renowned as the site where Joy Adamson and her husband George decided to return Elsa the lioness back into the wild. Couples will find Meru’s tranquility appealing; the camp we have selected is guaranteed to enchant. Elsa’s Kopje, a super-luxurious Elewana Collection product, is High up on Mughwango Hill, the camp offers amazing views and among its lodging choices a choice of cottages ideal for some romance. These cottages are really comfortable and perfect for alone time with thatched roofs and white-washed walls.
We travel to the Samburu National Reserve to offer you another resort with a high location and beautiful rooms. Located atop a massive red rock in the center of the Kalama Conservancy, north of the Reserve, this is Saruni Samburu Lodge. A long road climbs into the hills and the view’s pure beauty welcomes you right at the Lodge entrance. Your individual villa also offers stunning views across the Reserve. Every villa is quite beautifully outfitted, with a hint of explorer chic about it, and you may recline in your bathtub encircled by the gentle glow of candles.
At last, we have to bring up one more fantastic view home! Perched on an escarpment inside the Loisaba Conservancy, northern Laikipia, Loisaba Tented Camp From camp, you can view all the way across fields, rivers, trees, to the magnificent Mount Kenya on the horizon! Here, guest lodging is just six tents. The mattresses are big and pleasant, and it’s a genuine pleasure to sit on your veranda with a bottle and two glasses of wine come sunset, viewing the area become infused with scarlet and gold.
