Kibale National Park Safaris

Located in southern Uganda, Kibale National Park is home to 13 primate species and a varied mix of scenery.

Kibale’s most popular activity—tracking chimpanzees—takes place in this great stretch of woodland. Though man’s closest relative is the star of the performance, the combination of evergreen and deciduous trees, 351 species overall, is home to a vast spectrum of primates. Kibale is actually one of the top sites on the continent for tracking the hairy guys since it has the greatest concentration of chimps in Africa. Highly advised it is really an incredible experience.

Covering 766 square kilometres, Kibale rises from 1,100 metres to 1,600 metres. Gazetted in 1932, the park was formally founded in 1993 to preserve a vast area of woodland formerly exploited for logging. Even now, it has both lowland and montane woods, a quite unique quality globally.

Fauna

Among the 13 primate species altogether found in the park are chimps, black-and-white colobus monkey, red colobus monkey, blue monkey, and L’Hoest’s monkey. There are also buffalo, big forest hog, warthog, bushpig, bushbuck, blue and red duikers. Kibale has lion, leopard, golden cat, serval, mongoose, and otters in addition to all the forest inhabitants. Look out for the grey fellows, trundling through as many elephants move between this park and Queen Elizabeth N.P.

Equally remarkable is the bird count of Kibale. All told, 325 species of the feathered companions live here, including six indigenous to the Albertine Rift. Black-capped apalis, collared apalis, blue-headed sunbird, purple-breasted sunbird, dusky crimsonwing, and red-faced woodland warbler comprise these six. Kibale is truly a quite vibrant area to be; keen birders can also look forward to sighting crowned eagle, African pitta, green-breasted pitta, brown-chested alethe, yellow-rumped tinker bird, small greenbul, black bee-eater, and blue-breasted kingfisher.

Kibale National Park activities

Kibale has many additional interesting things to do. Most of the park’s properties we sell provide woodland treks that let visitors see all the animals—great and small—who call this area home. Apart from the rainforest, various geographical elements in and surrounding the park provide plenty more activities. If you’re seeking excitement, Kibale is a great choice: mountain climbs, swamp treks, lake paddling, and crater lake walks.
