Starting in East Africa and traversing the continent, this safari maximizes time in important areas and visits the very best “bucket list” locations and big game experiences: the Serengeti and the Great Migration, the mountain gorillas, the Zambezi River, Victoria Falls, the Okavango Delta, and ultimately Cape Town.
For whom is this tour intended?
This trip is for any client looking for authenticity in their safari encounter. Adventure at heart, eager to see the globe, and searching for great value for money without sacrificing the quality of their experiences define the perfect travel partner for this journey. Younger clientele are advised since the travel distances involved and the fast tempo reflect. While teenage children are ideal, this is not a safari for anybody younger.
Arriving in Africa, you will meet Andrew and fly into the northern Serengeti, right in the middle of the Great Migration for the well-known crossings. Rich pride grounds are assured; the northern Serengeti is explosive. Newcomer in the mobile camp scene is Wayo Serengeti Green Camp. You can start early morning expert walking safaris or head straight for the river and the crossings from great sites far from popular places. The value of this brilliantly built mobile tent has rocked the park. One of the most pure experiences in Africa is fly camping in “star tents”. One of the very best guides in the Serengeti and Wayo Africa founder Jean du Plessis will lead you throughout the park. Jean wears two hats these days and serves as Head of Tanzania for Wilderness Safaris. His walking ability and knowledge are legendary; he has a history of hiring local villagers to be skilled guides.
From the Serengeti, you will fly to Uganda for our next project—the mountain gorillas of Bwindi. Though most guides advise against eyeballing a gorilla, one of the most exciting experiences on Earth is being in the middle of a family group. The main activity at Buhoma Lodge in the middle of Bwindi is morning treks. Many guides consider the Buhoma area to be the ideal habitat for gorilla trekking anyplace in Africa. We will be undertaking two treks; none of which is exactly like the other. Afternoons will be fine-tune. Over 350 bird species and almost 200 varieties of butterfly abound in Bwindi and this forest overall. While we will visit Gladys Kalema-Zikusoka’s Research Clinic and meet Gladys personally, Andrew will conduct hikes to explore the jungle.
Starting from Uganda, you will fly longest down to Lusaka in Zambia and then on to Lower Zambezi National Parks. Our founder Julian loves the Zambezi Valley; he would “go on safari to tomorrow”. Furthermore, the camp? Chula Island Lodge on its own private island offers an amazing wilderness experience in a small, daring camp. This is back to spectacular big game viewing on and around an island in the middle of the Zambezi River. Chula’s rooms are distinctive; the sides are basically just net walls, giving an unhindered 270-degree view of the bush at all times of day and night – adventurous Africa at its best! Your guide here will be eminent private guide and owner Kyle Branch, among the very best we know anywhere. This is Kyle’s location, and a camp highlighting safari variety. One can boat, canoe, fish, hike, and run game drives. a particular spot.
From the exciting Lower Zambezi, you will next fly to Victoria Falls and spend two nights at the renowned Victoria Falls Hotel. Keith Vincent, CEO of Wilderness (Safaris), will welcome you to Zimbabwe and take you over dinner to his playground in southern Africa. On the Zimbabwean side of Vic Falls, the oldest and grandest hotel is the Vic Falls Hotel. Having seen some of the top wildlife sites in Africa, this is an opportunity to stop, consider, and feel the force of the waterfall itself. Usually best seen from above, we have included a helicopter trip to Victoria Falls. You will be with Sue Goatley, Wilderness head of Impact for the Zambezi area and lead for the remarkable Children in the Wilderness project, while she visits Victoria Falls. Knowing the difficulties of the area and knowing about CITW enhances the depth of this safari to another degree.
We will fly you into the Okavango Delta from Victoria Falls to discover one of Botswana’s most pristine and private concessions at Kweene Trails. Of the high-end private reserves in Botswana, Kweene is the only really mobile safari camp. Botswana is well-known for its very costly private reserves; many cannot afford exclusivity at this level. But Kweene has turned things around. Accessible only by helicopter, Kweene Trails follows the western Okavango Kweene River system. This region is well-known for its constantly shifting lion dynamics and resident wild dog bands. Only known to the top guides, a classic Okavango wildlife watching location. This is a space we really enjoy. And owner and founder of Kweene, Simon Byron, is the best person to know the nuances of the fauna and ecology found there. Simon is among the most well-known guides in Botswana, and Kweene Trails is definitely the buzz of the business there.
From Botswana, we fly down to Cape Town for the final few days of the tour. Private guide Howie Owen meets you on arrival, one of the most experienced, knowledgeable, and ultimately best guides in South Africa’s western cape. Our four nights here will be spent in the heart of Cape Town, at the boutique hotel Four Rosmead. There are a host of options here to choose from, if we’re honest! The key is to use the hotel as a base and to explore the city the way the locals do. Whatever your taste, your time in the city will be tailored by Howie. Remote off-the-beaten-track wineries, Michelin-starred meals, or private barbecues on the beaches. Cape Town rounds off this safari; a perfect end to an epic trip that has showcased the very best parts of the safari continent.
