Mufindi
Travelers looking for thrills in the mountains of South Tanzania would find Mufindi ideal! Children of all ages are welcome at Mufindi Highland Lodge, our preferred property; there is an excellent selection of activities available.
Mufindi, which forms part of Tanzania’s East Arc Rift valley, presents a new kind of holiday from traditional safari. We advise it to anyone who appreciates both land- and water activities as well as chances for some really amazing wildlife viewing! One can also find cultural events.
Location
Mufindi calls the Southern Highland home. One of four districts in the Iringa area of Tanzania, it also boasts the impressive Ruaha National Park! Mufindi District enjoys among the coldest temperatures in the nation. Here at times, it is also rather wet.
Legacy
Two industries, tea and lumber, have made this area famous. A successful farm emerged from a Fox family purchase of land in 1986. The farm changed over time to become Mufindi Highland Lodge, therefore exposing the area to tourism.
Safari fauna from Mufindi
Mufindi boasts lovely natural rainforest, undulating hills covered in tea and lumber estates. Monkeys and a lot of birdlife abound in the rainforest. Among the highlights of the area are Livingstone’s turaco, a gorgeous blue-and-green feathered companion named for David Livingstone’s brother Charles. Given its sharp tones, this species is difficult to overlook!

Along with birding in the woodlands, fishing, and cultural tours including walks to the local school, visitors can enjoy mountain biking along farm trails kayaking in the lakes.

Time and seasons of year for travel
Though you may visit Mufindi all year long, the best months to go are June through October inclusive. This is the dry season, and perfect conditions for activities are created by clear skies! May and November are great; the long rainy season causes inconsistent results in December through April. Having said that, the wet months are great for enthusiastic botanists because of their amazing floral displays.
